About Sumners Automotive

Aaron and Andy Sumners grew up learning the value of hard work from their father, Bill Sumners. As Aaron recalls, “My dad wouldn’t pay anyone to fix anything—whether it was cars or home repairs. Naturally, that mindset was passed down to Andy and I, so we learned to fix what was broken.”

While they both developed unique talents, Aaron found a passion for cars, while Andy enjoyed welding and building things.

After graduating from Western Dakota Tech with a degree in Automotive Repair in 2008, Aaron began his career at a Chevrolet dealership. Over the next decade, he worked at various independent shops, becoming Master ASE certified and gaining valuable experience as both a technician and a service manager.

Towards the end of 2020, amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, Aaron and Andy decided to pursue their dream of owning their own shop by launching Sumners Automotive and Elite Fabz & Design. “There’s never a perfect time to start a business, but we decided to go for it,” Aaron shares.

The journey was not without its challenges. In September 2020, Aaron faced the heartbreaking loss of his wife to COVID-19. During this difficult time, Andy stepped up to manage both businesses with a small team. Thanks to the dedication and resilience of their crew, Sumners Automotive has continued to grow year after year.

Today, Aaron and Andy attribute their success to the wonderful people they work with each day. They remain committed to providing quality service and fostering a supportive environment for both their employees and customers.
